The short answer: File Del Norte probate papers at 450 H Street, Room 209, Crescent City. Filing windows are open 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; an internal courthouse mailbox is available from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m., and the external box is available during the court day. Del Norte's local rules allow many uncontested probate matters to be submitted without appearance, but require a separate notice at least three court days before the hearing and all necessary papers at least five court days before it.

The court does not currently publish probate e-filing, remote-appearance, examiner-note, or tentative-ruling instructions. Confirm those procedures directly rather than importing a neighboring county's practice.

How do you file?

The filing counter is in Room 209 of the Del Norte County Courthouse. The court accepts paper filings at the window and identifies drop-box options around the counter schedule. The court's current online-services page offers case access but does not advertise civil or probate e-filing. That absence is not proof that an unlisted electronic channel can never be authorized; it means a filer should not send estate documents by email or through an assumed provider without clerk confirmation.

The same caution applies to the original will. Probate Code section 8200 generally requires the custodian to deliver it within 30 days after learning of the death. Keep the paper original intact and lodge it with the clerk as directed.

Can an uncontested petition be submitted without appearance?

Often, yes. Local Rule 12.2 covers a matter that may legally be decided on declarations, affidavits, or verified pleadings without testimony. It excludes petitions to confirm a sale of real or personal property.

To use the rule, file a separate pleading notifying the court at least three court days before the hearing. All necessary declarations, proofs, and proposed orders must be filed by the legal deadline or at least five court days before the hearing. Can you appear remotely?
