The short answer: Humboldt probate is handled through the courthouse in Eureka. Humboldt's public site distinguishes the Fifth Street courthouse from Court Operations at 421 I Street. Local Rule 6.3 directs probate papers and proposed orders to the clerk at 421 I Street. There is no probate e-filing option. Paper documents go through the short counter window, mail, or the longer-hours drop box. Do not assume a document deposited after the 2:00 p.m. counter close has the same handling or timestamp as a counter filing; verify the drop-box rule for a deadline-sensitive paper.

The original will must remain intact. Probate Code section 8200 generally requires its custodian to deliver it within 30 days after learning of the death.

What local rules change the packet?

Humboldt requires a typewritten copy of any handwritten will or codicil with the petition. A foreign-language will also needs a translation signed by the translator and a declaration under penalty of perjury describing the translator's qualifications.
