The short answer: Find Merced County probate notes on the court's Probate Notes page, organized by courtroom and hearing date. Current note instructions say they typically post five days before the hearing, while the court's general probate page says they may be obtained one to two days before. Start checking five days ahead and continue through the hearing morning. File technical-defect cures at least two court days before the hearing.

E-filing and original-will handling
Represented parties must use an approved EFSP. E-filings submitted before midnight are generally deemed filed that court day once accepted, but a paper requiring same-day service must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Provider charges include at least the announced $1 credit-card convenience minimum when a card is used.
The original will still requires physical lodging. Probate Code section 8200 generally gives the custodian 30 days after learning of death. Deliver it intact to the clerk and reference the electronic case.
How do you find and clear Merced County probate notes?
- Open the court's Probate Notes page.
- Choose the correct courtroom, hearing date, and time; Merced posts separate downloadable calendars.
- Match the case number and read each examiner comment, recommendation, and appearance instruction.
- File documents that correct the defects at least two court days before hearing. Later papers may be reviewed only at the judge's discretion and can cause a continuance.
- Recheck the notes before the hearing. When the examiner recommends approval and excuses appearance, the petitioner may submit. Otherwise attend as scheduled.
If you intend to appear, current probate-note instructions say to notify the other parties and call the Probate Unit at (209) 725-4111 by 4:00 p.m. on the day before the hearing.
Remote appearance, forms, and fees
Merced uses Zoom at no charge. File RA-010 under the statewide and local procedures. A probate note requiring personal appearance overrides a remote plan; participants who contest a ruling or seek remote attendance should also provide contact information to the clerk.
No generally mandatory Merced-specific opening form or probate surcharge was identified. EFSP/card fees are the verified local transaction addition.
Merced County's practical checklist:
- File through eFileCA if represented and use the Old Courthouse for paper items.
- Lodge the original will separately.
- Start checking examiner notes five days before hearing and continue through the hearing morning.
- File corrections at least two court days early.
- If appearing, notify the other parties and the Probate Unit by 4:00 p.m. the day before.
- Confirm that notes permit Zoom or excuse attendance before relying on either.
Court procedures change; verify filing, probate-note, and hearing details with Merced County Superior Court before acting.
