Alliant Credit Union account after death

Last verified: August 18, 2026

The short answer: Alliant publishes a dedicated Member's Guide to Account Settlement. For an account without a joint owner, its guide tells the claimant to prepare government ID, the deceased member's Social Security number, a death certificate, and Letters of Administration or Letters Testamentary. Joint and beneficiary-designated accounts follow their registration.

Alliant survivor checklist

Situation Published starting point
No joint owner ID, decedent SSN, death certificate, and court letters
Joint account Survivor generally retains ownership, subject to review
Beneficiary account Claim follows the member's designation
Investment or retirement Similar notification, but product-specific tax and distribution rules apply

How do you start settlement?

Open Alliant's current settlement guide and contact the credit union using the channel printed there. Identify all deposit, loan, IRA, and investment relationships so the representative can route each one correctly.

Do not sign in as the deceased member or move funds with their credentials. Once Alliant is notified, it determines the lawful owner or representative from the account registration and submitted documents.

What should an executor obtain?

Request the date-of-death balance, final statements, interest and tax records, pending payment list, and instructions for any account that lacks a survivor or beneficiary. If formal probate is unnecessary, ask whether Alliant accepts the applicable California small-estate affidavit.

What about a trust account?

Alliant publishes separate trust instructions. When all original trustees are dead, it says a successor trustee may need the death certificate and a trust tax ID. Use the trust channel instead of assuming the probate-estate checklist applies.

Alliant's guide is informational and product requirements can change. Confirm the live checklist before submitting records.
