Last verified: August 31, 2026
The short answer: Notify BECU at 800-233-2328 or at a BECU location. Submit a certified death certificate and the form for your role. BECU says processing may take three weeks or longer and publishes separate forms for beneficiaries, joint owners, estates, and retirement accounts.

Which BECU form applies?
BECU's forms library includes separate instructions for a named beneficiary, surviving joint owner, estate claim, and IRA beneficiary. Use the form matching the account registration and your legal role. BECU says it does not accept a will as proof that a person can act for an estate; a court appointment or another permitted procedure may be required.
For an estate account, BECU publishes a separate application process. Confirm the required estate tax ID, court documents, and signer information before applying.
Keep copies of the death certificate, form, delivery record, and case correspondence. Add the account to the master account inventory before distributing funds.
Processing and documents vary. Use BECU's current form for the exact account type.
