Synchrony deceased account notification

Last verified: August 18, 2026

The short answer: For a Synchrony credit-card customer, use the official online Deceased Notification form or call Estate Services at 1-844-365-1994. For a Synchrony Bank savings account, call 1-866-226-5638. Bank settlement generally requires a death certificate, court appointment papers, and an estate distribution form signed by all executors.

How do you notify Synchrony Estate Services?

The online form accepts the cardholder's identifying details, the representative's contact information, and PDF or image uploads. Do not put a full Social Security number in a free-text comment; the form itself requests only limited identifiers.

Save the submission ID. The form updates the cardholder record but does not itself establish that the submitter owes the debt or can receive account information.

How is a Synchrony Bank account settled?

Synchrony's banking FAQ lists the decedent name, Social Security and account numbers, death certificate, Letters of Administration or Letters Testamentary, and an Estate Distribution Form signed by all executors. New Jersey residents have an additional state tax-waiver requirement.

For a joint bank account, Synchrony says it may close and reopen an account when the deceased was primary, or remove a deceased secondary owner, after receiving the death certificate.

Should family pay a Synchrony card balance?

Do not assume a relative personally owes the balance. Ask Estate Services for the claim details and route any valid estate claim through the executor's creditor process.
